Feeling Good Over 40
Posted by 4T at 15:40 | Filed In Family After 40, Life After 40, Social After 40
I started to feel old about 6 years ago (I’m 55 now) when somebody said to me that I looked good .
Everybody knows that you only tell older people how good they look! That’s it, I’m too young for this! Time to stand up a little straighter and become, well, more youthful.
I was not getting any younger but I wasn’t old. I was getting more sure of myself, better, more confident. Let’s take a look at one example. My relationship with my husband. I’ve been married to the same man since I was 21 years old. When we were younger I used to yell and fight with vigor; my husband was calm, quiet, and patient. Now, I don’t yell any more, I overlook, I talk, and forgive. There is less drama, I’m not on the edge anymore. I’m more mature, not old!
All my relationships have progressed this way. I have fewer friends, but they are true friends. I wave to my neighbors, but I don’t become involved in their lives. I’m not there for everybody anymore, just my family and good friends. Maturity has taken away the guilt, and replaced it with a feeling of calmness.

Thanks for this wonderful post. The more women talk about the positive aspects of aging, the better off we all are.
