Wisdom Comes With Age

Posted by 4T at 11:12 | Filed In Life After 40, Mentality After 40

I know that my memory is not as sharp as it was 10 years ago, and I’m a bit slower at learning new things but I think I’m gaining wisdom, and for that I am truly pleased. The online dictionary states that wisdom is:

  1. The ability to judge what is true, right, or lasting, insight.
  2. Common sense, good judgment.
  3. A wise outlook, plan, or course of action.

Iknow that intellectual knowledge and wisdom are two different things. Intellectual knowledge comes from study and observation, while wisdom involves a deeper understanding of people and events through reflection and self-insight.

As I age I certainly reflect more!

I look back on my life and consider the major lessons I’ve learned from relationships with my husband, childrearing, jobs, and encounters with friends, family, and others. Growing up, my world was very sheltered. Luckily, through travel, jobs, and education my world has expanded and I have been open to new experiences, cultures, and social classes. I have learned to listen, ask questions, and accept other point of views.

Age has brought calmness into my life. Everything was a big issue, a huge deal, a point for drama. Now, I stand back and access, then comment or not. Remain calm, that’s my mantra. I have also tried to limit negative thoughts; it zaps too much energy.

I’m not exactly a” don’t worry, be happy” personality, but everything doesn’t get me down either. I know that when I was younger I used to dwell on my feelings, now I consider others more. Trust me, I’m not the Dalai Lama of my world, but I am gaining wisdom, which helps to put the rest of my knowledge to better use, at least I think so.
