Melatonin Update

Recently, I wrote about melatonin and its different “healing” powers. I purchased the small pill with the intent of using it as a sleeping aid. I had asked my doctor about taking melatonin because I take so many pills now I really didn’t want another prescription drug, but I did want to know her opinion. She gave me the go ahead with the advice of letting her know if it didn’t work.
The instructions on the bottle stated to take one pill 20 minutes before bedtime. I took the pill one night about 11:30 p.m. I went to the bathroom and went to bed; I did not wake up until 4 a.m. to go to the bathroom again. I hopped back in bed and immediately fell back to sleep, waking at about 9 a.m.
This may sound routine to some people, but not to me . I usually take one to two hours to fall asleep, and then another hour when I wake up to go to the bathroom. My mind starts to wander and my husband starts to snore; a very distracting combination!
The melatonin worked wonders, in one night.
I did feel a little tired the next day though so I didn’t bother to take it that night. I still had a good nights sleep. I now take it every other night with great results. The pill is not scored and I am considering buying a pill cutter for those in between nights or maybe just taking half on those nights I need it. I truly recommend melatonin as a sleep aid. For me there was no headache or druggy feeling the next day and I feel that it is safer than a prescription sleeping pill.
