Traveling over 40

Posted by 4T at 09:13 | Filed In Life After 40, Travel After 40

I’ve always wanted to travel, but after reaching 50 my desire has intensified. I don’t care where it is, I’m interested. Whether it is the next state or the next hemisphere. I don’t have any desire to visit space though. I would love to take 6 months, rent a fully equipped RV, and take a road trip across this great country of ours. I’m not as interested in the big cities as I am in the small towns. I feel that most cities are alike to some degree, but the outskirts are where you experience the flavors of each state. I mean that literally and figuratively. Small dinners and village hangouts can give you great insight into peoples lives in certain areas. Just look around your own area and the eateries you frequent. Certain foods are popular, as are drinks; you even discover fashion and decorating styles. Local vernacular can also be picked up.

The countryside itself is another draw. I would like to travel different highways as well as backroads and I do think that an RV is the way to go. I have never traveled via camper but I feel as though todays “home on wheels” might be truly that. My husbands driving skills may be the only draw back, and I don’t know if I can handle driving that big a vehicle. It’s odd that cross country trips are usually planned by older people and I guess that’s due to time and money, but I also feel that it is due to perspectives. An effort to catch what’s been missed, and to enjoy it while you can.
