Grandchildren

Posted by 4T at 09:01 | Filed In Family After 40, Life After 40

I can’t wait for grandchildren. Don’t worry, I’m not one of those mothers who pressures their kids to have children. I’m just ready for when it happens. I look forward to babysitting and sleepovers, and vacations. I just don’t think that I want to commit to a long term child care position. Five years ago, I might have had a different outlook, but as I get older, I hate to admit it, I don’t think that I have the stamina it takes to care for a young one on a daily basis.

I have a cousin, who is older than I am, who cares for her 3 grandchildren, a set of twins, age 5, and a two year old. She has cared for them since birth, so her daughter could go back to work. She retired from a teaching career and her husband also retired shortly thereafter to care for the three cuties. They even travel with them, by airplane, to visit family, several times a year. I give them loads of credit, and they are going to make me look bad.

Seriously, I just don’t think that I could physically handle the lifting, bending, and running. I love the reading, game playing, coloring, video watching, cuddling, and napping. I might enjoy some day trips, maybe some overnighters, just not everydayers. We will see, the little darlings aren’t even here yet. All my thoughts and worries may go right out the door when I hold the little bundle for the first time. I’ll probably be able to handle anything, just like the first time with my own children.
