Do women over 40 look good in long hair? I’m over 50 and have shoulder length hair, maybe a little longer, and I think I look good. In fact, my hair is my best feature. I wash and style it everyday; by that I mean I use a blow dryer and sometimes electric rollers. I regularly get it cut professionally and also get it colored when necessary. But I am afraid to stray to far from my usual style. I have worn this style for years. I did get it cut relatively short a few years ago on the advice of my daughter, but I didn’t love it . My hair stylist has suggested different styles and I have gone along, but they are only slight variations of the same. My friends, most over 50, have short hair. and it looks good on them. I have seen older women with long hair that is not very flattering on them, and is not in very good condition, and I feel as though they are just trying to hang on to their youth. I hope that when my hair becomes brittle with age or over styling I will be able to make the right decision and revamp my look even if it means taking off a number of inches.

Clean Sweep

Just recently my tastes have been changing with regards to home furnishings. I always loved traditional furniture and accessories and have always decorated my house accordingly. Now when I look at ads or tour furniture stores I gravitate toward a more contemporary look. It is less cluttered and has a sleek clean feel. I think that’s part of it! I’m tired of cleaning all my nicknack’s; all my vases and collectibles. Give me a table with a bowl of fruit on it, or a tall vase with one lonely stem, or three neatly stacked books. How about shelves with 10 perfectly chosen items as opposed to dozens of treasured do-dads crammed into every possible space? Lovely!

Seriously, I do like that stark look, but I can also appreciate the shortened cleaning time too. As I get older I just hate to clean. I used to spend hours making my house just so. Now, I do heavy cleaning when I invite company, or around holidays. I’m trying to declutter, but how can I do that if I can’t part with anything? I don’t want to throw things out but I would like to store them. Maybe take a few treasures out periodically. I do think I would feel a lot calmer if everything was in it’s place; neat and orderly. My attitude might be lighter if my furnishings where not oversized and crowded. I’m going to try redecorating my living room first. If I like the result, I’ll continue on throughout the house.

If your over 40 you know or should know that you can’t wear all the trendy clothes out there, but you can wear variations of them.

Here are some tips on how to dress younger:

  1. Don’t dress too trendy, classy is best.
  2. Do use fashion accessories, especially handbags and shoes.
  3. Update your hair, color, cut, and style.
  4. Your body is changing so try different styles.
  5. Don’t wear baggy clothes, even if you are overweight.
  6. No minis, even if your legs are great, knee length is best.
  7. Boot cut pants-slightly flared at the bottom- seems best for most body types.
  8. Try wearing white, or soft colors, next to your face.
  9. Start to wear make-up-sparingly- or change up what you wear.
  10. Try a new fragrance.

Buy classic styles, and accessories them with trendy fashion ideas, but less is best when your over 40.
