Ten years ago, I would thumb my nose at plastic surgery, with that “not me” attitude.

Today, I’m checking out my options.

Two years ago, I had caps put on my teeth to enhance my smile. A smile that I lived with for over 50 years. What’s next? Liposuction? No, too scary-I saw it being done on TV. Eye lift? Maybe, but they make small slices in your eye lid. I had a friend do it. She healed beautifully, but I’m still squeamish. Sometimes I think they pull the skin up into your hairline. Neck lift? Possible, I always hated my double chin. I also saw that being done on one of those medical shows. Not pretty, but acceptable.

Recently, I wrote about melatonin and its different “healing” powers. I purchased the small pill with the intent of using it as a sleeping aid. I had asked my doctor about taking melatonin because I take so many pills now I really didn’t want another prescription drug, but I did want to know her opinion. She gave me the go ahead with the advice of letting her know if it didn’t work.

The instructions on the bottle stated to take one pill 20 minutes before bedtime. I took the pill one night about 11:30 p.m. I went to the bathroom and went to bed; I did not wake up until 4 a.m. to go to the bathroom again. I hopped back in bed and immediately fell back to sleep, waking at about 9 a.m.

My daughter has been having trouble sleeping lately and her doctor told her to take Melatonin. I thought that this was for memory improvement so I went online to investigate. It seems that melatonin is used for a number of sleep disorders among other things. Taken at high doses this hormone can increase REM sleep (which is deep sleep). It is also used as a preventative for migraine and cluster headaches, as well as a treatment for seasonal affective disorder(SAD).

This is great news for my daughter who suffers from migraines, and sleep disorders, but I also found some info that is interesting for the over 40 crowd. Melatonin is a powerful antioxidant. This means that it’s great for wrinkles:or getting rid of them that is! Taken in small doses it is said to be a great anti-aging tool.

Before taking this hormone I would suggest doing your own research, and speaking to your doctor or pharmacist, because of drug interactions, but it sounds relatively safe to me.
